We are FairView Park
Fairview Park is a 53.3 rural outdoor recreational site in Salem Township, Westmoreland County. It was purchased in 1945 by the Monongahela Valley Sunday School Association as a recreational retreat for African-American churches in southwestern Pennsylvania. The site is still used today for this same purpose and is managed by the Fairview Park Association, the contemporary name of the original Association.
The Park is located on Old Route 22, the original stretch of the William Penn Highway approximately 1.5 miles east of Delmont, Westmoreland County and immediately east of the intersection of Rock Springs Road and Old Route 22. The Park retains integrity as a rare example of an outdoor recreational destination for African-Americans during the Jim Crow era.
Fairview Park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. Below are links celebrating and acknowledge the importance of the park's addition to the register.
